Frequently Asked Questions

What is coaching and how is it different from traditional counseling?

While the differences in experience can be minimal, coaching allows for a more strengths-based and directive approach. We work from the mentality that you have the capability to flourish and may just need some guidance in achieving goals or overcoming struggles. Additionally, counseling can be covered by insurance while coaching is typically self-pay.

Do coaching sessions really make a difference?

I have watched lives and relationships transform in dramatic ways when the clients are motivated to create change in their lives. Conversely, some clients see little to no change despite months of sessions. This is often due to their desire for external circumstances to change, above a willingness to foster personal growth.

What is a session like?

A coaching session typically lasts about 50 minutes in length and can look different depending on the individual. Some individuals prefer to verbal process, while others are looking for more direction. The interaction will be unique to you and your situation, but often includes empathetic listening, outside perspective, increased understanding, and practical steps to move forward.

What if my struggle is not a relational struggle?

While the struggle you are experiencing may not be directly with another person, I believe that the challenges we face happen in the context of relationships. I am happy to help you walk through the personal growth needed to overcome a large variety of challenges.

What if my partner is not interested in working with someone to improve our relationship?

Even when your partner is not interested in coaching or counseling, you can get started on making changes in your own life. This will invariably have an impact on your relationships as you grow healthier and learn to interact in healthier ways.
